“Charisma cannot be taught. It cannot be practiced in a rehearsal space. You cannot take a course on charisma. I believe you can learn to get better at charisma but some people naturally have it. Dom has it. He has it in spades.”(Marty Zylstra of Vancouver’s Sweetheart).Dominique Fricot is a Vancouver-based solo artist with a lot to offer. Not only does Fricot charm his audiences with his captivating banter, but he also has the ability to move his audiences through song with his heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies. Standing 6 foot 7, Fricot commands the stage with his rich baritone and his emotive fusion of rock, soul, folk and jazz. “Fricot’s plaintive vocals and knack for melody invite comparisons to Chris Martin and Adam Duritz ” (John Lucas, the Georgia Straight).
While only recently appearing on the music scene under his given name, Fricot has toured with bands across Canada for several years. Getting his start as head songwriter and front man for the alternative rock group The Painted Birds, Fricot toured Canada coast to coast on numerous occasions. Along with being selected in 2009 Peak Performance Project top 20, The Painted Birds also showcased at several renowned festivals including Canadian Music Week, North by North East, the WesternCanadian Music Awards, Sled Island (Calgary), Juno Fest and AustinTexas’ world famous South by South West.
Fricot is currently working on his first solo studio release with producers Shawn Cole (You Say Party, Bend Sinster, Yukon Blonde) and Caleb Stull (Parlour Steps, Hinterland). The first two teaser tracks “Haven’t Seen Me Dance” and “Seashore” were released digitally in May of 2011 and are an exciting preview of what is to come.
