Ryan McAllister has been writing, recording and producing music for the past decade. His career began as singer/songwriter for the band Dakona. In 2001, the young Vancouver quartet was the subject of a seven label bidding war and signed with Madonna’s Maverick Records.  The band toured North America extensively, and in 2003 they released Perfect Change.  Soon after, following a massive reshuffling at Maverick, Dakona lost their deal and McAllister found his accidental profession, recording indie bands in the little rehersal space the Dakona boys had built with their record deal advance.

Today McAllister runs Room & Board, a professional recording studio in a converted barn a few steps from his home in a sleepy corner of Southwest B.C.  He has taught himself the art of producing and recording, and has written plenty of music along the way.  The self-produced Music for a Rainy Town is his first solo effort.  Released in April 2011, it is a rich, diverse record that covers the genre gamut between pop, old time gospel, and straight-up rock and roll.  The 12 tracks reflect a seasoned maturity and offers insight to McAllister’s personal evolution in the last decade, and deliver engaging melodies and lyrics steeped in imagery.  In March, McAllister played two packed showcases at South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas.  His song, This Black Heart, has had radio play in his hometown of Vancouver, and McAllister has plans to support the release of Music for a Rainy Town with a series of shows in Western Canada & California this summer and fall.
